IT TAKES A VILLAGE, 2023 This felted wall hanging embodies the static period of being alone, and quiet in the sacred comfort of a bedroom. A moment of peace from the chaos of development. Unknowing of her character, the girl depicted in the piece is not showing her face. She is not ready to be picked at, she has picking to do of her own still. Trying to understand the complexity of her complexion and what that means in society while trying to please all the critics in her life. Motifs in the piece represent growth, self-development, and the effects of home imbalance. With reflections of familiar childhood emotions of fear to put myself out to others.
